Off-Fridays Mental Illness Blog Share, Week 1: Mothers with Mental Illness

Mental Illness Blog Post, week 1 Mothers with Mental Illness Share

Hey hey! It’s Friday! If you’re looking for the current Fiction Fridays prompt, check here. Last week I decided to make Fiction Fridays biweekly rather than weekly to give YOU more time to enter to be featured on this here front page, and to give ME more opportunity to actually do some new writing.

But I also promised that I would find something awesome plus interesting to add for the off-Fridays. That’s a tall order, but here it is! A blog share for mental illness blogs!

One of the best surprises blogging about PTSD has offered me is the ability to connect with like-minded, supportive people going through similar struggles. So far I have met a number of amazing mamas with PTSD, and other kind, intelligent, interesting, and brave mental illness warriors who are breaking stigma to smithereens every day. But it seems like almost every day I’m reading a blog post with a shout-out to ANOTHER amazing mental illness blogger, and, frankly, I can’t keep up. So I have created this link up! My hope is that we can use to this to come together, drop our links, connect, and create a big STIGMA SMASHING MACHINE! Orrrrr something of that sort.

Anyway, I don’t like rules so much. I find a ton of rules annoying. However, rules do have their use, and a few simple rules can help a thing like this run smoothly. SO, here we go…

Here’s the link to the Betty’s Battleground Facebook Community page (, and here’s the blog subscription form:

If you want to do both, awesome, but I ask that you do at least one so that you can continue to get reminders about these awesome link-ups!

I think the comment or share rule is pretty self-explanatory, but don’t let it limit you. Feel free to read posts and make as many respectful connections as you please!

Regarding abusive language or posts, I realize everyone has their own idea of what constitutes abuse. Some people think that simple disagreement is abuse, and if that’s the standard by which you want to moderate your comments, that’s just fine. Everyone’s personal blog comment rules are their own. For the purposes of this group, a simple expression of disagreement will not constitute abuse. Directed profanity, non-constructive criticism, and general rudeness will. If you submit an abusive post, or someone reports that you left an abusive comment via this link-up, depending on the severity, you will be banned from the next two link ups. Unless it’s just really egregious, in which case you will simply be banned, period. I retain discretion to make those decisions, but I will do my best to be fair in all cases. If you think I’ve been unfair, you can e-mail me, but I will not engage in an abusive conversation or pointless back-and-forth, so please try to make your e-mail constructive.

Anyway, if you do all this stuff, I will share your posts and all will be awesome!

Mother’s Day is this weekend, which means it’s time to show some love, or at least emotion, to mothers ’round the world. The Week 1 theme is “mothers with mental illness.” Drop a link to any post (or two) related to that theme, including writing about being a mother with a mental illness, having a mother with a mental illness, or a general scientific inquiry into the mystifying creature known as motherwithmentalillness. Or whatever. Don’t worry; if this theme doesn’t work for you, I’ll have a new theme next Off-Friday. You don’t have to participate in every link-up if you don’t want to!

Adding your link is super easy! Just go to the Off-Fridays Wk:1 Page (you’ll still be on Betty’s Battleground; don’t worry) and drop your link in the box.

Here’s the badge to tell everyone you did it! It’s purrty and it will help attract more people; more people=more community, so I’d love it if you would include this badge in your blog sidebar or on the post! I made it on

This link-up will be open until next Friday, May 18th. For another way to be featured on Betty’s Battleground, check out the open Fiction Fridays prompt. Up to three winners will be featured on my FRONT PAGE!

If you participated, don’t forget to share the link to this page. It’s easy! Just click a share button or two, located down below the post, or floating on the side of your screen, over there on the left. If you use the Pinterest browser button, there’s a real nice Pin embedded in this post 😉

Please share the word about the mental illness blog share link-up, every other Friday on!

If you didn’t participate but think you know some bloggers who may want to, please share as well!

And don’t forget to subscribe if you think this idea is awesome, or if you miss Fiction Fridays and want to make sure you don’t miss the next one.

I’m really excited to host this; I hope you’re as excited to participate.

Til next time!

  1. I love that you are doing this! Women need to support each other when it comes to mental health and this sort of thing can really open the doors to conversation. Hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

    • Thank you Chloe! Yes, we absolutely need to support each other and this blog share is a really great way to create community and provide communal free advertising…but it only works if people participate lol I’d love to see a link from you! You sound like you get it!

    • Thanks, it would mean the world to me if you would add a link in. It’s a great community builder and FREE blog advertising, but it only works if people join

    • Me too! You should add one if you have anything related to motherhood and stress or anxiety or anything else MH related! Link-ups are GREAT communal free advertising for bloggers…but they only work if people partiiiiicipate

  2. YES MENTAL HEALTH BLOGS!!! Love this! I struggle with BPD and Anxiety disorders and have been trying to find other health blogs to end the stigma! This was amazing and super connecting for those wanting to reach out <3

    • Thank you Donna! I don’t know how much advice I can give, but I can certainly share my experiences, and sometimes that’s enough to help others 🙂

  3. Very few Bloggers write about mental health great way to share writings on the one topic many people try to avoid.

    • Thanks Ra’Nesha. It is an important topic that many people tend to avoid..though let me tell you: there are more MH bloggers out there than you would expect! Which is why I started this blog share; I hope to bring us together. I think the first week’s topic may be a little too specific to get very big, but I’m hoping more will join in the following weeks. Thanks for your comment 🙂

    • Thanks Cynthia! I agree! Though, for me, mental illness is a reality and the subject on this blog spans far more than a single week or month

  4. This is definitely going to help mothers who are suffering from PST get the support that they need from fellow bloggers. It’s really awesome that you’re doing this. Kudos to you!
